In the near future I plan to reupload pictures of antique furniture that I photographed and featured on this website over the the past years. Most of these pictures will be of antique furniture that I bought in the Northern US and hauled to the Atlanta area to sell at auction. Often buying and hauling as many as four box truck loads of antique furniture and other antiques each month for almost 10 years.
Photo Album Software and Digital Cameras
Photo Album Software
I built my first website www.myhart.net in 1999 to advertise the antique furniture that I hauled to Georgia to sell at my antique auctions. My first webhost had a hosted solution for adding pictures. However I was quite limited as to to number of pictures I could display for each auction. Plus after each auction was over I had to delete the existing pictures in order to add new pictures for the next auction. The monthly charge for hosting and photo album software in 1999 was also prohibitive by today's standards. The webhost charged me over $100 each month for webhosting and the photo album software necessary to host these pictures.

By 2002 I was tiring of the $100 plus monthly charge for displaying my pictures. Plus I now owned the domain name AntiqueFurniture.US having been fortunate to obtain it during the .US domain landrush. I soon discovered that Yahoo offered webhosting at a reason fee. While I had never actually built a website before. Yahoo offered a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) website editor which was quite easy to use. With that editor I built my first actual webpages on AntiqueFurniture.US. Adding my furniture pictures to the web pages I built using Yahoo's simple to use web editor.

Looking for a easier way to build photo albums for my pictures I discover Web Album Creator by Galleria Software. I had tried lots of different photo album software by this time. However I found that Web Album Creator was easier for me to use than most of the other solutions! Web Album Creator resides on your computer and allows you to create and upload photo albums. If you have visited AntiqueFurniture.US in the past you have probably seen some of the photo albums that I created with Web Album Creator.

Yahoo offered very reliable webhosting. However as I learned more about building websites I soon found that Yahoo didn't offer many of the advanced features that I wanted to use in building my websites. So I looked elsewhere for a website hosting plan that offered the features I wanted. Wow what a fustrating experience finding a quality webhost can be! Which is a topic for a webpage I am considering posting in the future.

Today AntiqueFurniture.US is hosted by HostNine which offers all the website building features I need. Plus the technical backup necessary to maintain my website all at a very affordable price! Which brings me back to the subject of photo album software. As I am now forced to update this website I also want to update how I display my pictures of antique furniture. By using "free" photo album software made available by zenPHOTO I can now offer many advanced features for my photo albums. Such as a search utility, tags and the ability for visitors to add comments and questions to each picture. Plus by using zenPHOTO I can now update image titles, add tags and descriptions all on the fly.

Sony Digital Mavica MVC-FD81
My first digital camera was a Sony Digital Mavica model MVC-FD81. Using this camera was quite a time saver compared with using a 35mm film camera. The MVC-FD81 saved a lot of trips to have film developed plus the cost of film was no longer an issue.

My early Sony MVC-FD81 camera took quality pictures under good outdoor lighting conditions. However I was never happy with the picture quality when I attempted to use it inside! Using a flash while the logical solution simply didn't produce pictures that I found acceptable. So I moved most of the furniture outside into the sunlight to take the pictures. Which in itself created a fair amount of problems and extra work. Time of day was often critical because of shadows. Not to mention weather conditions such as rain. While not as obvious wind can quickly ruin a good day and a valuable piece of furniture! When I finally tired of taking the antique furniture pictures outdoors. I decided to go shopping for a newer digital camera.

Fujifilm FinePix F601Z Digital Camera
Most of the antique furniture pictures featured in my photo albums were taken with a Fujifilm FinePix F601Z digital camera. Which I purchased because of it's ability to take quality pictures inside under fluorescent lighting. For the most part I was quite happy with the pictures the FinePix F601Z took. Though I soon found that a tripod was a necessity when taking pictures indoors! As any movement would result in an out of focus picture. Something newer cameras seem to have over come with image stabalization.

Canon PowerShot A590 Digital Camera
As I start a new phase in my auction career I guess it's about time to update cameras? Well actually I just dropped my Fujifilm FinePix F601Z once too often on cement! However not to be long without a working camera I went shopping for a new digital camera to take pictures for my future antique auctions. I intended to buy another Fuji digital camera. However after checking out several cameras I decided on the Canon PowerShot A590. I wanted a digital camera with a little extra bulk that I could grasp to. Price was a factor and of course the camera had to be able to take quality pictures indoors under fluorescent lighting! All things considered the Canon PowerShot A590 Digital Camera has turned out to be a great choice! I am including a product description of this fine camera and a link to Amazon.com to check on Amazon's current best price for the Canon PowerShot A590.
