Berkey & Gay Bedroom Suite
I received the following email of interest concerning the antique walnut Berkey & Gay bedroom furniture pictured above that I sold at auction on January 3, 2003. This fine 5 piece Berkey & Gay bedroom suite consisted of a full size bed, chest, dresser, vanity and matching mirror. What made this Berkey & Gay bedroom furniture even more unusual and desirable was the fact that the chest, dresser and vanity each featured a hidden drawer.

Dear Sir,
My name is Christian Berkey and I am Julius Berkey's great great grandson. I just wanted to drop you a note to compliment you on the Berkey & Gay pieces you have - they are exquisite!

Kind Regards,
Christian Berkey

Berkey & Gay Dining Room Suite
Since 1995 I have been responsible for personally hauling or shipping by semi tractor trailer many fine pieces of Berkey & Gay furniture into the Atlanta area for auction. However the Berkey and Gay 12 piece dining room suite featured on New Year's Day 2007 was quite exceptional! This Berkey & Gay dining room suite featured an ornate flame mahogany china cabinet, massive sideboard, server, dining table with leaves, and set of 8 elegant dining chairs.

Berkey and Gay Furniture Labels
As with the above bedroom suite this 1920's era dining room suite featured the round brass Berkey & Gay label on the case pieces. However the dining chairs were marked with the earlier style Berkey & Gay Furniture Company round paper label.

Brass Label

Over the years that the Berkey & Gay Furniture company was in business they used 3 different types of labels to mark their furniture. The first Berkey & Gay label was branded in the wood. The branded type label was replaced by a paper label around the year 1900. From what I have read the brass label was used starting around 1920. As with the above Bekey & Gay dining room suite it is not uncommon to find both brass and paper labels used at the same time.
